Updown.io great uptime/downtime monitoring tool

Most people use UptimeRobot’s free plan to monitor website uptime/downtime.

But the interface of UptimeRobot is ugly, especially the uptime/downtime report screen looks terrible (you can’t see the uptime/downtime stats for the whole year).

Obviously, UptimeRobot’s free plan cannot meet the needs of professional uptime/downtime monitoring.

Should you spend money on the Pro plan that costs about 5$/month?

The answer is no? We simply can’t spend money on an ugly looking tool that doesn’t have so many cool features.

Another popular paid uptime monitoring tool is pingdoms. But this tool does not know what interesting features but the price is sky high. The free plan only monitors up to 2 websites.

Considering the price and features, I find Updown.io to be the best tool available today. That’s the tool I decided to stick with for a long time.

Outstanding advantages of this tool: easy to use, very nice uptime/downtime report interface, can share uptime report for everyone to see. Especially the pricing here is very reasonable.

Here’s the best part:

When you sign up for Updown.io you will get 100,000 credits. If you sign up through your referral link you will add 100,000 credits for a total of 200,000 credits. What is Credit, I explain more below.

With this 200k credits, you can monitor 7 websites for more than 3 months (to check every 5 minutes). Quite comfortable.

Outstanding Features of Updown.io

  • The check interval is extremely diverse: 15 seconds, 30 seconds, 1 minute, 2 minutes, 5 minutes, 10 minutes. This UptimeRobot or many other tools cannot be achieved (the number of 15 seconds check once is very impressive). The shorter the period, the more it costs. But you can customize the length of time for each website you monitor to suit your needs and finances. Customization to suit your needs is another outstanding advantage of Updown
  • The form of notification when downtime occurs is diverse, including via email, SMS, Slack.
  • Downtime is determined across multiple locations before alerting you. Therefore, downtime notification has high accuracy. Currently there are 8 positions in all.
  • Get alerted when SSL expires.

Nice report

Report is the thing I get the most when I first use Updown. When I see a report like this, I know I have found a tool to monitor uptime/downtime like this:

You can make your report private or public. For those who like to rate hosts like me, the public feature is extremely useful. I can share the report in the host review to make the review more objective and “better” than other reviews.

I see many of you measure uptime in a sentimental way without using a tool. Or wait for the email notification from the hosting provider. This approach is unprofessional.

In my opinion measuring uptime is a must. Do not put your trust in any supplier.

Many times downtime happens when you go to sleep. In fact, in managing many websites, I see that many customers have the habit of buying goods at midnight.

So there is no reason for you to continue to use a hosting service that does not meet 99.9% downtime standards. Unless you’re building a website for fun.

How is the Updown price?

Updown calculates the price according to what you are using. While other tools make you pay a fixed price every month. Paying for the whole year is more economical. If you only monitor a few sites, it’s too expensive.

Those packages also limit the number of monitoring sites. So no matter how you look at it, such a fixed calculation is not very good.

In Updown, every time you request to check uptime, you will be charged. 1 request is equivalent to 1 credit. That said, with the initial 200k credits, I am monitoring 7 websites for more than 3 months in the mode of checking once every 5 minutes.

If you do not have the need to check often, leaving every 10 minutes will save even more.

Epilogue

In general, I am very satisfied with Updown. Nice clean interface. The full visual report makes it easy to see the downtime status day by day.

I think Updown is a service worth experiencing.
