Today I will show you how to set the default avatar image in WordPress.

Why set default avatar in WordPress?

The profile picture, sometimes called the thumbnail image, is the main image for your WordPress posts and pages.

All popular WordPress themes have built-in support for avatar images.

But sometimes you might forget to upload a profile picture in your articles. Or if you have other authors posting on your site, they may not realize the importance and ignore adding a featured image.

WordPress themes often use avatars in various places. If you forget to add a profile picture, many holes can appear in the interface. Including in important places like your homepage or post listings.

In the example below, my site will look like an error if I forget to set the post’s profile picture.

Set default avatar image in WordPress

First, you need to install and activate the Default featured image plugin .

Once activated, go to Settings > Media . Then click the Select default featured image button to select the image.

If you don’t want to use the default avatar anymore, just go to Settings > Media . Then, click the Don’t use a default featured image button .

Don’t forget to click the Save Changes button when you’re done.
