Importing and exporting data are two useful functions if you want to move or restore data. Data is an asset that needs to be protected, especially with the articles you publish. Backing it up periodically is essential, so that if something goes wrong, you don’t have to sit back and retype it from the beginning.
There are many ways to backup data for a website, especially with wordpress . By default, you can Import and Export data in WordPress with the included tool.
This means that you can export (export) content on this website and can import (import) into another WordPress website or the website itself if data is lost.
However, this export/import feature can only export the main content related to posts and pages only. As for plugins, themes, and other wordpress settings, they can’t be exported, I will guide in another post.

To export data in wordpress, go to the menu Tools > Export . Then select the content to output, you should select “all content” . Then let it export all posts, pages, comments, other fields included in the article, etc. And click Download the exported file button . The browser will download a file with the extension xml, please copy this file to a safe place!

To import data, go to the menu Tools > Import. Find the tool is WordPress, if it is not installed, press the Install button and wait for a while.

After the installation is complete, the word Install will change to Run the importer . You press this button, then Select the file as the saved output file. Then press the Upload Volume button and import . How long this process takes depends on the amount of content from the output file.

When entering, if any content is already on the website, it will ignore it and only import the content that is not available. In addition, the date and time of the post will be kept the original time unchanged to the date and time you entered.

This is the Import and Export feature in WordPress, it is unprofessional and has limitations. For example, the image in the article will take the image from the website that has exported the data. If the images on the exported website are lost, the imported articles will not have images.
Therefore, this feature is mainly for you to export demo data for another website. If you want complete data backup, use more professional plugins. I will introduce it in another post!
