Discuss about pointing domain to host cpanel
After purchasing a domain name , you need to add the domain name to the host.
Adding money to the host usually falls into the following 2 situations.
Firstly, you use the domain name as the main domain name in the hosting purchase process.
The other case is that you bought hosting for another domain. At this point, you add the domain name as the add-on domain name .
After finishing adding the domain name to the host, your next job is to point the domain name to the shared host. To do this, you have 2 ways.
First, you change the name server (NS) of the domain to the name server of the hosting provider.
However, this method may make your website inaccessible. Moreover, using the hosting provider’s NS often has a slow update speed. This causes disruption if you have to switch hosting to another provider.
Therefore, I recommend you to use the second method. That is pointing the domain name to the hosting with the hosting provider’s IP address.
In this article, I introduce both ways for your convenience. In this article, I will use Namecheap to illustrate how. However, this approach is very basic. You can apply to any other domain registrar.
Point the domain name to the host cpanel using the host’s DNS
First, you need the NS (Nameserver) information of the hosting provider. This information was sent by the hosting provider by email when you purchased the hosting service. Or you log in to your hosting provider’s account page. Sure, you’ll see NS information in there.
The picture below is an example of A2Hosting ‘s NS information
Now, you go to Namecheap’s domain management page. You choose Custom DNS. Then enter the hosting provider’s NS. And click the Save button to save the configuration.
It can take up to 24 hours to access the domain with the new NS.
Point domain name to host cpanel by IP address
Step 1: Get the IP address
You click on Advanced Zone Editor in the Domains section
Select the domain you want to find the IP address and scroll down. You will now see the address for that domain
Step 2: Add DNS records
You access the domain management page. In Namecheap you click on Advanced DNS . And declare 2 more records as follows:
A Record with the value of hosting’s IP address
CN AME record with domain value.
Like the above method, you have to wait for the domain name’s DNS server to update the hosting’s IP.
Epilogue
The above are ways to point the domain to the Cpanel host to help you access the website installed on the hosting.
Simple right?
Good luck
