Captions are useful because they add background information about the images you use. However, many WordPress themes do not display captions for the featured image of the post.
In this article, I will show you how to display captions for featured images in WordPress.
Why add captions to featured images in WordPress?
Featured images are a feature of the WordPress theme. Almost all WordPress themes have built-in support for featured images and display them beautifully on different areas of the WordPress site.
Adding a featured image to your post will make it look more engaging and build user engagement. When you upload a featured image, you have the option to add a caption and description. , along with other schools. So it’s important to add captions to featured images.
But when the image is displayed on your site, it may just display the image.
This depends on the theme you are using. For example, the Twenty Twenty and Twenty Twenty-One themes show featured image captions by default. The Twenty Sixteen and Twenty Nineteen themes are not.
Don’t worry if your WordPress theme doesn’t display featured image captions. I will show you how to add them using a plugin.
Add Captions to Featured Images in WordPress
The first thing you need to do is install and activate the FSM Custom Featured Image Caption plugin .
Upon activation, you need to visit Settings » FSM Custom Featured Image Caption to configure the plugin.
The default setting will work for many users, however, if you want featured image captions to be displayed on the front page of your WordPress site, then make sure you click on the ‘Show captions’ checkbox images in the list’.
For this tutorial, I will leave the option ‘Default mode’. However, if you want to style the caption with your own custom CSS, then you should choose one of the other two options.
When you’re done, make sure you save your settings.
When it’s done, you’ll see any captions added to your feature image.
