What is domain name transfer?

Domain name transfer is the process of transferring a domain name from one provider to another. When you transfer a domain name, you only have to pay for the new registrar and get an additional 1 year of usage time.

It’s no different when you renew your domain name. For example, your domain name expires in August, but you transfer it in June. So after transferring the domain name, it won’t expire until August next year.

Why transfer domain name?

Many domain name registrars regularly offer discounts on new domain name registrations. But few offer discounts for domain name renewals.

In particular, some registrars have quite high domain renewal fees. That is why many of you want to transfer your domain name to another provider with lower domain maintenance fees. For example, Namesilo  is currently a domain name provider with very low maintenance fees ($8.89/year). So many of you are currently tending to transfer domain names here.

However, the important domain names many people still keep the domain names at the big reputable registrars.

In general, domain name transfer depends on each person’s preferences and style.

Notes when transferring domain names

Before embarking on domain name transfer, there are a few notes you need to remember:

The domain name is only 2 months old to be transferred

The domain name can be transferred to another provider after registration or transfer for 60 days.

You also note not to update domain name information close to the transfer date. Because after updating your information, you will be kept for another 60 days before you can transfer.

Unlock the domain and get the EPC Code

This is a mandatory step in the domain name transfer process. A suggestion for you if you intend to transfer the domain name:

You should unlock and get the code soon. And wait until there is a good promotion, then transfer it.

Use intermediate Nameserver when transferring.

Using the domain name provider’s default Nameserver will cause your website to be interrupted when transferring.

It is best to use CloudFlare ‘s intermediate Nameservers . So you don’t have to worry about the website being inaccessible when transferring the domain name

Turn off the function of hiding domain information if any

During the domain name transfer process, you need to authenticate yourself as the domain owner. The new provider will send a verification email to the email address you used when you registered the domain name. If you haven’t turned off hiding, they may not be able to send emails. So you cannot authenticate, leading to not being able to transfer.
